Physician Engagement
Tonight, we heard from the docs who participate in the #BCSM chats – as always, great conversation!
-
-
is this thing on? #bcsm
-
The questions are for the docs and health care profressionals on the chat. I’m looking forward to learning from them tonight. #bcsm
-
Q!: What encouraged you to incorporate social media — in any platform — into your daily work? Not all physicians are jumping in. #bcsm
-
T1: Love to communicate and educate and be educated #bcsm via SoMe
-
-
-
-
A1: I was encouraged by mentors and by the fact that, initially, I was doing what I was told to market. #bcsm
-
-
A1 an excellent way to learn others POV, other specialists, patients #bcsm
-
A1 once I was on, I was inspired in a way by the lack of information and the wealth of misinformation – had to jump in #bcsm
-
A1: Rapidly, I realized that Twitter had so much potential as a way to connect, share good mental health info, and learn. #bcsm
-
-
Q1: I love ability to reach a broad audience. I’m global in my outreach & audience and SM works well for me! #bcsm
-
-
-
A1: And now, I have so many more resources-not just for my education, but to recommend to clients & others. #bcsm
-
Q1: I also love the energy of the patients and clinicians I know from twitter – trying to help others, very supportive. #bcsm
-
It’s really become so valuable – have connected with many colleagues I might not have met. Great collaboration. #bcsm
-
For our health care professionals Q1a: Does your involvement add much more to an already packed day? #bcsm
-
-
#bcsm SoMe and 140 characters have helped me become succinct. To the point. Which helps greatly when F2F with a new patient.
-
A1a it’s just become another part of the routine. you figure out how to add it in. #bcsm
-
A1a: Sometimes it’s an extra thing “to do”–but most often, I get back more from social media than it takes. #bcsm
-
-
-
#bcsm T1a twitter is a part of my work flow. It’s become a natural extension of my communication toolkit. Effortless now.
-
And I’m not here every day–I follow my own advice and take breaks. #bcsm
-
140 characters to make friends is a great value proposition #bcsm
-
As a patient, I am so thankful to have all “our” docs here. You are a wealth of information&support, & a valuable member of our team. #bcsm
-
@SurvivorRunner I think we all just see ourselves as an extension of your regular medical team. Certainly not a substitute. #bcsm
-
I don’t consider you part of my personal medical team but more a member of my advocacy team. Helping me connect with that community #bcsm
-
Five years ago if a physician said, “Twitter adds value,” at an ASCO conference I think there would have been a lot of funny looks. #bcsm
-
-
-
#bcsm colleagues look at it as either extra work or a PR opportunity. Neither are accurate. Must change this view to increase involvement
-
-
-
A2: I learn all the time: powerful reminders of the daily challenges of BC. #bcsm
-
-
-
A2 I learn every day from patients, whether via SM or FTF #bcsm
-
A2: I have recommended this community to so very many people–it has set the bar high for pt. support/education/empowerment. #bcsm
-
-
A2: I better understand how some of you are sick of too much “pink”, how important it is to give hope, and how we are really partners. #bcsm
-
-
-
The patient experience is informing physicians and providers with points they weren’t aware of before. These are big, big poitns. #bcsm
-
As a patient, knowing something as simple as a hashtag can bring about an incredible response is incredibly reassuring. #bcsm
-
-
The powerful outpouring of #FearlessFriend energy, cowbell, advocacy–even in the face of great loss moves me. #bcsm
-
#bcsm T2 I’ve also met amazing people that have enriched me personally. I think it helps combat burn out. Many on now. U know who u are.
-
@drdonsdizon agree – collaboration, education, inspiration – all great burnout snuffers #bcsm
-
-
its just great to have a community to connect with (especially if you’re not a support group kind of person) #bcsm
-
-
-
@drdonsdizon fear, lack of understanding just how it works. All that can be changed w/education – more docs will jump in #bcsm
-
I think using twitter, blogs, etc for up-to-the-minute data from major meetings is huge – for docs and patients #bcsm
-
-
-
#BCSM has given me new perspective re: life after bc tx. I take as much responsibility as my oncology team. Very powerful as pt/advocate.
-
Seriously I feel like #BCSM has helped equalize the playing field. I feel so me helps demonstrate a team approach to care.
-
sincerity, empathy, understanding, collaboration…. all from doc-patient “chats” on twitter. And they say Twitter is worthless #bcsm
-
-
…. 10 minutes left!! Did any of you think you’d be educating/learning/supporting each other in 140 characters 5 years ago? #bcsm
-
5 years ago – I had absolutely no idea how much twitter would take over my life – in a good way. No idea. #bcsm
-
and if it wasn’t for twitter, I would not have met so many amazing people IRL, and wouldn’t have had such great online connections #bcsm
-
-
Last thought for tonight: this chat and other spaces on social media are the frontline of collaborative, engaged healthcare. #bcsm
-
-
Thank you to all the docs that joined us tonight! ROCK ON! #bcsm
